A Day Not At Work

The Situation:
Because I’m working on Saturday morning, I get Friday orrf.

So What Happens:
Two minutes after the time I would have finished, had I been working Friday and not Saturday, I get an email from my supervisor:

Hi Michael,

I had intended to speak to you today about Sat working, but now realise that this is your day off.

Comedy Incongruously

It was the footage of the pitch invasion at the West Ham v Millwall cup-tie t’other night, for all the hand-wringing it seems to have triggered, the defining image to me was the somewhat rotund middle-aged man, already ill-matched to his leisure clothing. He was clearly exhilarated at having broken onto the pitch and to be running around the park amidst the professional players, but even more clear was that he didn’t know what to do having got there.

It was like a large dog that’s been caged in the back of the car for too long, and is all worked up to a pitch of excitement by the journey, but is then unsettled by the unfamiliarity of the new surroundings into which he’s released – the excitement came from the routine anticipation, but when the release came it was accompanied by a change in the routine, and it leaves the dog unsettled and unsure. And so the guy would have these random bursts of running, and then not having anywhere to run to or at, would resort to skipping, as if he had to keep moving, but by running would have got too far, too quick, as if having run onto the pitch, there was nothing left to do but run off the pitch.
