Park Row

It was good. It was definitely a B-movie but it was good all through. It had a great ensemble of character actors, all with great faces. It had a great full-street set that allowed some long and effective camera movements.

The story is essentially a cornball victory for the American way, or in this case the ideals of journalism (?!!), but it’s told with love and passion (and not very much money). It’s heart survives the saccharine overdose because it also shows the other side of the American way, of corporate bullying, of corruption, of deceit, as the wild west is played out across the streets of New York.

The only real weakness the film has is the performance of Mary Welch, who always looks as if she’s pretending to be evil.

All that said… I don’t think I could watch it again!!
